• Now, I love gallery and I love wordpress, and the folks that have made WPG2 have done a wonderful job. However, I would like to keep both apps running separate on my website, not have the gallery integrated into my blog. Basically, I would like to be able to link to and pull from my gallery, but have it jump over to gallery rather than embed it. Is there such a solution? Would it be easy enough to implement?

I appreciate any and all responses.

  • As far as I can tell, you would need to install a gallery (maybe Gallery is already installed? I’m not up on this plugin)on your server without the WP2 plugin which is the integrator.

You can then link to it on your blog headings or down the side but it won’t be within your blog.

My site has similar but with a gallery called zenphoto. Two seperate entities and no embedding! :o)

    Hope that helps

the way I did is use mod_rewrite in gallery, so to have shorter urls, and use that link in blog..
this seems to be working fine..

Thanks guys. This is what I have been doing so far, and it has been working alright. I guess one of the cool things I miss out on this way is sidebar functionality, but oh well. I may work on it a bit while I am confined to my bed cause of these darned wisdom teeth, but at the same time the meds make it a bit hard to focus 😉

lol I have a tooth with a dead root awaiting a root canal and 2 other teeth wanting fillings… xmas has been a nightmare! Was in agony until the thing croaked :o.

Hmm so you want it integrated for the sidebar functionality but just not the gallery being viewed within your blog?

I’ll bet you can keep the plugin and pull the gallery out to it’s own page with some code tweaking somehow…

I am doing exactly what member “tired” is doing — separate WP2 and Gallery2 apps, and using URL rewrites in Gallery2 so my IMG statements in WP2 can be shorter. Works great!

I tried many times to get WPG2 working, but with no luck. I think my issues revolve around URL rewrites, addon domains, hyperlink protection, any or all of the above. 😉

I will wait for an updated version of WPG2 to come out before spending any more time on trying to integrate the two apps.

Yeah the rewrites between the two can be frustrating. I find it surprising that the development between the two has always been so shakey. They seem like a perfect match, and considering the development behind both, neither seem like they can ignore the other.

Must just be lots of people like me who are too afraid/ignorant to get their hands dirty in the code. I highly emphasize the latter in my case 😉

    Well that was easy enough…

If you have gallery 2, and you have the image block enabled, it will automatically generate a block of php code that you can insert into your side bar for example, and get a random image or whatnot.

    Cool beans.

FYI — the developer of WPG2 has made an announcement regarding plans to make it compatible with WordPress 2. You can read it here:

I inserted the auto-generated block code, but my wordpress page just doesn’t load a single thing?!? Confusing.

    Has anyone else suffered this?
