I messed up yesterday – big time bad.

WordPress had been installed and working well for me for quite awhile. For some reason – explained only by my inability to leave well enough alone, coupled with the inability to remember mistakes I have made in the past, coupled with the ability to consitently cause trouble for myself and then compound it… I changed the general settings for the site URL and WordPress URL from caicw.org to caicw.org/index-html. I thought it would be more accurate… or something… (caicw.org is an html page, ie caicw.org/index.html) (note the difference)

    Crash.

Then I spent the next four hours or so exploring the cpanel files – trying to correct the error at its source. I couldn’t find what I was looking for. I did move index.php up a folder. I did learn a little bit about the complexity of files. But I didn’t correct the problem.

Not being able to correct it – I went ahead and deleted wordpress with the intention of reinstalling.

But it won’t reinstall. This is the error message I am getting –

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user ‘lisamorr’@’localhost’ (using password: YES) in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1301553860.6393Y4cNj_I8hb on line 1717
Access denied for user ‘lisamorr’@’localhost’ (using password: YES)

I spent another hour or so trying to trouble shoot this. I tried different logins, etc. Tried to find where on ‘tmp’ the hold up might be. tried to see if I had flipped some dumb switch somewhere. I have no idea what I did or what am looking for.

PLEASE HELP. I promise I will try to leave well-enough alone from here on out…

    Lisa,

All you have to do is to upload all the wordpress files back, create wp-config.php file from wp-samle-config.php file with correct database details and then change siteurl back using phpMyAdmin.

Here are some articles that will help you to accomplish this:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress
    Read about wp-config here.

And read about changing siteurl back here:

See the extent to which my abilities to mess up extend? I responded to govpatel by email – which of course didn’t work. Makes me afraid to try arkgroups suggestions – although I did see the wp-sample-config file in my meanderings yesterday.

    I didn’t see the phpMyAdmin.

I think I’d like to try the skype help –

I had fantastico save a backup. My fear in using it is that it was saved after the disaster occured.

I’ve never used skype – but I am willing to try it. I have to bring my grandson to preschool in a couple minutes. I can be back here by 12:30 or so CST. Does that work for you?

I’ll have two hours or so before I have to go back for him – Is that enough time?

Thank you, Govindji! It is such a relief to have it back up. I need to spend some time this evening smoothing out some of the details – the templage seems to have changed slightly – but I can do that in the Suffusion theme settings. You were very kind to help me out with this – and I will keep your website – http://gbpcentral.com – for future reference. I have three other Word Press blogs and three other HTML sites.
