Whole bunch of calendar stuff in wp-includes/functions.php – tweaking it is hacking core, though…. (not that I don’t do that myself, but lots of folks aren’t happy or comfortable with it….)
Also some stuff in wp-includes/template-functions-general.php….

For displaying it just put

<?php get_calendar(); ?>
</li>
wherever you want to see it.
