page takes over front page even though other is set as front page

Hi,

This is a strange one. I added a page and even though another page is selected as “front page” in reading settings “static page” the new page comes up as the “front page”. And when I choose “latest posts” as “front page” the same new page shows as front page. When I delete the page or set the page to draft I get a 404 file not found error even thought the “front page” is set to something else.

never ran into this before and can’t find it in search
