• Okay, I integrated a WYSWIG editor into both WordPress 1.0.2 and 1.2. It’s the typical “Microsoft Word”- look-a-like interface. You can see a screenshot at http://mudbomb.com
The editor works with any platform, as long as you’re using Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer; Mozilla 1.3 Beta or newer; or one of the recent Gecko-based browsers.
Give it a try and let me know what you think 🙂

  • Joe,
Looks pretty sweet! You can put a blurb about your hacks in the WordPress Wiki, if you like!
Here is the link to the page.
Thanks for making these, Joe, and thank you for sharing them with the community!
    Craig.

i just installed it, works perfectly. only one small issue: it’s not compatible with the “grins” hack, the one which adds a quicktag icon row to easily add smileys to the text. i think it’s because the grins hack doesn’t find the correct textarea anymore. would be great if those two plugins would work together, so the ultimative editing environment is possible 🙂

    Thanks man!

    that’s cool…
    it works with mozilla?
    yay

having a prob in mozilla, when i clicked <> it goes to html, when i click <> again, it wont return to wysiwyg

Lilandra: Yes it works great in Mozilla(that’s the browser I use most of the time). I didn’t want to contribute to Microsoft’s evil empire by using yet another IE-only wysiwyg interface 😉
Anonymous: Are you using an old version of Mozilla? I just now tested this in Mozilla Firebird 0.7 and it worked fine.

i am using mozilla firefox 0.8
even when i choose simple control, when i edit my post, it shows the wysiwsg. if i make a new post, it goes to simple control, when i edit a post, it doesn’t

ah..is that so, aint that weird..

Everything seems to be in working order w/ this hack, except 3 issues:
    1. when i have a draft & attempt to delete, it opens up a page w/ “error in deleting…” in the top left corner. I am unable to get rid of this draft. Something do w/ permissions?
    2. It is VERY slow in posting some longer posts. It didn’t do this in simple look
    3. at the bottom of the advanced writing screen, in the Custom Fields section, I get the following error written in the box:
Database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘ORDER BY meta_key,meta_id’ at line 4]
    SELECT meta_key, meta_value, meta_id, post_id FROM wp_postmeta WHERE post_id = ORDER BY meta_key,meta_id
Many thanks to the growing community!

Yes, I can remember deleting posts from within the writing screen rather than being forced to go to the edit screen and deleting posts from the list of posts.

is output XHTML valid (when you insert some pictures for example)?

    (@joe)

Yes, the editor inserts valid xhtml. 🙂

Sounds good, will give it a try when u’ve upgraded 🙂
Keep up the good work 🙂

Just finished updating it(not like I had anything better to do on a Sunday anyway :-).
Download the updated version at the link at the top of the thread.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
