• Hello,

I recently downloaded NextGEN gallery and it’s been working fine. I uploaded two sets of images, it made thumbnails no problem, everything worked great.

I go to upload a third gallery in the exact same fashion, and now I get 0 images uploaded successfully. I tried non-flash and I get a x.jpg is no valid image file!

I then tried to upload the images directly to the folder via FTP, and they were fine. They uploaded correctly. I go back to NextGEN to “scan the folder” to find the images, and when it scans, it finds nothing, and DELETES all of the images on my host directory that I just uploaded!

Please assist. It’s odd that I could upload two folders perfectly fine, but the third doesn’t work at all, when I hadn’t changed anything in-between.

I’ve got the same issue, im messing around trying to figure it out. I’m running the site using MAMP, and im thinking it is a permission issue with the user account. When I figure it out I’ll be sure to post.

Seems to have to do with permissions. When I switched the owner of the folder to root I was able to do the scan successfully, without the the deletion thing happening. So I suggest checking out the file permissions.

Some more detail… I think it has to do with the image permissions. I’m noticing that if i don’t explicitly set the permission on the image to allow WordPress to work on it, the image is removed.

File permissions for sure. When I use the Nextgen uploader to add an image, the file permissions are modified. Scanning runs, and things are fine.

However, if I just copy an image from the web, and drag and drop it into a gallery folder, the default permissions of that file do not mesh with what WordPress expects. The result in this case is the pictures vanishes when the script attempts to process them.

One more piece of the puzzle, if you are downloading images using Chrome.. Chrome does a strange thing where it sets the files permissions so ‘Everyone’ can’t read or write to the file by default.

Safari downloads don’t have this issue, as they allow ‘Everyone’ permission to at least read the files. These Safari downloads don’t have a problem being dropped into a Nextgen folder and ‘scanned’ for an update.

I am new to wp – the same thing happens… i try to download pdf doc. from my computer into folder and it says it is not a valid image file. Is this easy to fix?
