[Plugin: Subscribe2] unsubscribed registered users are being resubscribed

We have about 300 registered users on our blog, and over 250 of them are also subscribed to e-mail notifications through the Subscribe2 plugin. Some people don’t want to receive e-mail, however, so I explained how they could turn off email subscriptions from their profile.
Now I got an email today from a registered user on our blog who says that she repeatedly (over the course of the past months) unsubscribes herself, but always eventually gets email again. What’s turning her subscriptions back on? Is it whenever the plugin gets updated? Did it happen with the WordPress upgrade? Has anyone else had this happen?
Bit more info: all of our registered users have “author” status on the blog, and all the “admins” want to receive all email all the time (none of them tried switching it off), so I don’t know if this happens only with authors or if it’s for all user levels.
