possible to post custom image size in WP upload form?

    I have a center column for my post content that’s about 500px wide. When I use the WordPress image uploader, I’m typically given a Thumbnail, Medium, Large, and Full Size option for image display. However, occasionally the Large option is disabled and I’m left with Medium (too small) or Full Size (much too big). Is there a way to customize the size of the posted image aside from manually resizing it before upload?
