Should I install on a sub-domain name?

    Hi
    This is my first post here, and I have decided to go with WordPress.. Now there seems to be two ways of setting up the Blog domain.
    1. just use a sub folder under the main domain aka:
    http://www.mydomain.com/blog
    2. use a sub domain:
    http://www.blog.mydomain.com
    OK which is better from the point of SEO?
    I want all the benefit of my Blog to pass to my domain..so do I stick with option 1 or go with 2? With 2 I am not sure if say Google will pass all the links and ranking benefits from the sub-domain to the main domain?

    No. As far as Google and most others are concerned, the subdomain is a separate entity as goes search results and rankings. I run my blog on a subdomain and have no issues with search engines and placement on them. Also, earlier this year when wordpress.org had issues with Google and pagerank, other subdomains (such as codex and trac) were unaffected.

    Has the issue with PR been resploved? I see WordPress is back to PR 9…when did they get back?

    I don’t recall the issue lasting much more than a week. It was resolved pretty quickly.

    * WordPress has been PR9 for months now.

    * Subsites are good for statistics and isolation e.g. multiple Webmasters and delegation of responsibilities. Search engines do not mind the difference.

    * Subsites may be easier to manage, e.g. migrate when fragmenting a site to separate domains.

    One caveat about “subdomains”. If it is a real one, i.e. it always stays like
    subdomain.domain.com/subfolder/file.name
    then it’s fine. If the subdomain is just a facade and for deeper links in fact redirects to
    domain.com/subdomain/subfolder/file.name
    you might have difficulties setting up the “nice” permalinks. I remember users posting about difficulties with permalinks in similar cases.
