   from where can i add meta tags to my site. I want to make it search engine friendly and to start with i would like my index to have <meta tags...but from where can i edit it? and is there any good plugin for such purpose which can collect meta words etc etc and put in the site

   You can put manually meta tags in your theme's header.php template file.
   Alternatively you should look at the Plugins section of the Codex, namely for Plugins/Meta.
