• Ola there

I have something in mind since a few days now : I run a community site with a forum powered by PHPBB2, I hate PHPBB2, and I’m thinking about simply moving the forum from PHPBB2 to WordPress.

I’m thinking about this because I hate phpBB2’s overbloated features, lack of important ones (go handle serious spam with phpbb2. Good luck.), pluginless architecture, non PHP template files, etc…

I’ve had a look at some other forum software including bbPress but no one seem to satisfy me.

Now, what I’m asking is : does anyone think about a major reason not to do this ? I don’t see any, but well, before migrating 30.000 threads (assuming I’ll be able to) I’d rather be sure…

  • I, for one, would love to see that. I get plenty of spam on phpBB and it is laborious to eradicate. SEO-wise you will be better off with WordPress, assuming you you do this properly. Security in phpBB is now notorious (DoS attacks and hijacking). Extension-wise you’ll do better. phpBB have lost some valued team member whom I suspect was the lead developer.

More on the issues: scalability, threading of comments (although WP plug-ins exist). Others can elaborate, I suppose…
