• Hi!

There was another post about this, but it wasn’t resolved. I would like to try now.

I am designing sites and having them live via multisite subfolder and if a client likes it I would like to be able to export this and upload it into a new hosting server account.

Is this possible? I was thinking about exporting it through WordPress’ administration tools but it comes out xml and I have a mac, so i’m not sure how to upload it and set it up on a new server. I know I would also need to have the same theme and plugins installed and ready to go for the import content to work.

Is there another way to do this or is exporting the content and the settings from the dashboard the only way? I feel like if I tweak the site etc, the css won’t follow along and upload to the new server.

    Thanks!

    Adam B

  • Have you ever moved a site OFF wordpress.com and into a hosted wordpress.org install?

You do exactly the same steps.

No, actually I host it myself on another server. I never used wordpress.com before. So right now just trying to figure out the structure multisites.

Basically i’m using the same theme over and over again. This theme is a special platform which you use to tweak and create websites with. It’s not the average theme. (example at http://www.pagelines.com for their platformpro)

I’ll just have to continue to look at the files in the server and determine which files I need to export.

Right. We told you THERE what you need to do.

The THEMES are all in wp-content/themes/themename

The SubFolders are all virtual. You’ll need to export the posts from the built in WordPress exporter tool and import them to the new one.

This is the BUILT IN export tool. http://codex.wordpress.org/Tools_Export_SubPanel

I’m seriously tempted to close this as a duplicate, but… That’s the gist of it. Back up the theme and copy it to the new site. Export your posts and import them on the new site. I did it this morning 🙂 Takes 20 minutes if you stop to brew coffee in the middle.
