    Hi Folks

I have seen quite a few problems arise in the forums over the .5 upgrade, some appear to be due to plugins or themes not behaving as intended, but others appear to be actual WP problems, in some cases they appear to be quite drastic too.

While my site is commercial in nature Im pretty much a base amateur with WP, skinning and moving things around in the CP is pretty much the height of it at the moment and I dont have time to go learning new stuff about it to implement workarounds etc to solve problems that may arise from this upgrade.

We have no untrusted users of the site so security on that front is not such a big issue.

Could it then be considered not a good idea to upgrade to .5? Or should we plunge ahead anyway? (I hate running old versions of software but if it works it works right?)

    thanks for your thoughts

    should I install 3.0.5

    Yes.

    More reason to do so!

Still yes. You really want to keep up to date because while it could be a chore, it may also save you from problems down the road.

The releases are done to protect you. All WordPress.ORG software users really need to be able to do the following:

1 – Create a good full backup of your complete database and files.

2 – Know how to exactly recreate their blog from scratch using those backups if they completely lose their blog.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup

3 – Know how to deal with plugin/theme issues if there is a conflict with a release.

Personally for number 3 if there is an issue for me, I just lose that plugin or theme.

So my advice is backup completely, then do the upgrade. If it’s all good then congrats.

If there is a problem, you can roll back to the old version easily enough using your file and database backup.

    Hey Jan

Thanks for that. I should have thought of backing it up, d’oh!

so upgraded OK, no problems evident yet either 🙂

    Cheers
