Hi there… thank you for your questions… This is my first plugin and really did not expect to see this many downloads so far… wow!
1. I have not tested it in a multi site environment – so I am not sure about that yet.
2. With the capability manager you can define a super admin role or really call it any role name you desire… Used in combination with the “menu editor” plugin you can limit or expose as much access as you desire for any role.
3. We use our plugin plus the recommended plugins for our customer sites. With a fresh install of wordpress… installing our plugin plus the recommended ones will pretty much give you everything you need for most sites.
4. We removed annoying or useless dashboard items that our customers don’t really need… if you find one that you would like removed…. usually caused by other plugins… let me know and I will add an option to remove it.
5. CMS dashboard adds a nice “dashboard item” that resembles most CMS systems… this is not my plugin but a recommended plugin.
6. yes
7. We tested our plugin with all the recommended ones on the list… give it a s hot.. it works like a dream!
Hi Alex,
Thanks for your plugin!
I installed it, but one thing I just can’t find…
The first screenshot you show us, “Admin Page”, where do I find it in my wp-admin??
I really searched for it, but I just can’t find it.
Thanks in advance,
janneke.
Thank you for your answer Alex.
A good idea for the plugin would probably be (as I said on 4. of my previous comment) to be able to pick up any dashboard item with an option to remove it so you do not have to hard-code it all the time. I mean there are dozens of plugins out there and customers and friends ask for the strangest things. Noway to have a standard list. Could you probably recomment of a compatible plugin that does the job and add it to your list?
As for the super-admin (topic3.) I think it is part of wordpress 3.1 core roles.
We also included the no longer supported “Capability Manager” and will be picking up that plugin as part of the Web Editors CMS.
This may be the best of times to improve it as well.
Have you ever tried this plugin “User Role Editor”? It says it is compatible up to wordpress 3.1 Another excellent plugin I used for roles was “Role Manager” by Thomas Schneider
Thanx again. I will give it a try within the next days and let you know how it goes.
janneke,
Please make sure you activate the plugin if you have not done so already…. then click on Setting >> Web Editors CMS and it will redirect you to the page you are looking for. Thanks for using the plugin! π
marikamitsos, thank you for the feedback… I like the idea of dynamically picking an item to hide from the dashboard… I will also look into user Role Editor. Cheers!
Alex,
It looks like the Web Editors CMS admin page is not showing up in the Settings panel. I just upgraded to 3.0.5
thFOOL,
I just made a fix…. it should update soon.
Thanks for your quick reply, Alex!
But I’m afraid thFOOL is right, it does not appear in the Settings menu… (also using WordPress 3.0.5)
I do get the “Capabilities” in the Users-menu, and “Capability Manager” in the Extra-menu.
I hope it will be a simple fix for you.. π
Thanks,
Janneke
update: ah, you already made a fix!, super!
I just updated the plugin, but “Settings >> Web Editors CMS” does not appear yet?
janneke… what version of PHP are you using?
I use php5
AddHandler x-httpd-php5 .php
janneke,
I just replicated the bug… please stand by while I find the culprit. Thank you!
janneke,
I take that back… it is late here and I was looking under the wrong menu…. I just went through an entire fresh install 3 times and I see the menu under “Settings >> Web Editors CMS”… Perhaps you can try uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling it? fyi… the menu item will only show for admin users.
Hi Alex,
It still does not work..
I have deactivated and deleted the plugin,
then reinstalled and re-activated it.
The “Web Editors CMS” does not appear in Settings still…
(I am logged in as the administrator off course..)
Ok, I have got it. Problem solved!
I am the administrator, there are no other registered “users” other than me.
Only, I had changed my username from “admin” into “janneke” when i installed WP. (I think that is a new option, that it is even possible to change your username from “admin”?)
I just changed my name back into “admin”.
It works! I get the menu right now!
Thanks for all your effort Alex! Glad we solved it right now..
Now I’m finally going to actually use your plugin.. π
Good luck and thanks again for your plugin and help!
janneke.
(PS. Maybe an idea for the next update… to allow Administrators to change their name and still be able to use it? I changed my name out of security reasons.., when everyone in the world is called admin, hackers only have to guess the password..)
I hope you will test for multisite. I have that (WP 31.) and your settings menu does not show up even logged in as admin. So I can’t tell if it is due to multisite or not.
Ah. Resolved. One has to be in one of the sites to see the settings menu. It does not show up in the network admin page.
