[resolved] Installation finishes "successfully", but say must run install.php (13 posts)

I'm installing the latest wordpress though my server's script library. I've done this numerous other times, and currently have 5 other working blogs on the same server, installed the exact same way. I've attempted to install myself through the FTP and followed every instruction given in the Wordpress help files.

Installing through the server's script library (It's an cPanel X setup, if that helps. Linux server.) and each time, the server returns a message saying that the installation was a success, and when I attempt to access my blog, it says "You must run install.php", thus I do, and it comes to a blank window with nothing in it, no scripts running or anything. I'm boggled as to what the problem is, other than the possibility of a server only allowing so many installations of Wordpress.

We're planning on rebuilding our site solely on Wordpress, and we are unable to install wordpress. Any ideas on what could be the problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Jameir

Possibly a stupid question, but did you try to refresh your browser's view or try a different browser? ;-)

Indeed. Though I'll try again, just to be sure.

I'm using Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7, which *should* be even better than IE. But I guess I can attempt it with IE as well.

I'll try it and get back to you. Thanks.

No luck. I tried it with IE, refreshed and all, and got the same outcome. I tried it with Firefox again, and got the same thing.

Do you have a limit on the number of databases you're allowed on your host setup? I haven't run across anything like this myself, though - generally when I've used the Fantastico setup through the server library, if I haven't had a database available, it's told me that up front....

Hmm... I don't know if we do. I'll check on that.. thanks. I wouldn't have thought about such.

Kind of odd that it wouldn't tell me though. I'll try, thanks.

We have an unlimited amount of databases allowed. Though I'll have to talk to our server provider about some things.

Which I'm able to install other blog softwares, but not wordpress. So I'm rather confused.

Hmm. Very. So you have this problem if you try a manual install as well?

Indeed I do. At least with the auto install, it would automatically put in the database information, but I've actually gotten an error page when I install manually. I've looked at previous installs to see if there was any way I might have went wrong, but I followed the information given in the previous installs (using my common sense, of course.) and still had little luck, though I was able to get an error message.

It said something about it not being able to link to the database. I'm unsure as to what it said exactly though.

Well, that sort of message usually means a problem with the database name, database username, or password. Are your others all "localhost" for server? Or are they something unusual?

Can you check with your host to find out if the database is getting created properly? Can you access the database through mySQL/phpmyadmin to see if all the tables are there?

I'll try. It's not something I've done before, so it should be an interesting learning experience.

The hostnames are nothing. Like, where it says HOSTNAME 'localhost' ... mine say HOSTNAME '' ... kind of strange, but they work.

OK guys, this is a very odd occurance. I installed through the Fantastico panel instead of the cPanel or manual install, and it worked. I'm very very confused at this point... Maybe the server was having some flukes, maybe not. I don't know.

I really appreciate your help, this support forum works, unlike a lot of the support forums I've gone to in the past.

Thanks again, cheers and happy blogging.

Don't you just love gremlins? Glad it's finally working though!

So we can take it this thread can be marked resolved, then?

Indeed you can, good sir. Problem solved.

Yay for ghosts in the machine and gremlins.

Thanks again, hopefully I won't have to come back here, hehe.
