    Guys,

I am setting up a site for a deaf charity that I volunteer for.

I’m looking for a theme that encompasses the following:

    Drop down menus,
    Image gallery,
    Members area,
    newsletter,
Site map at bottom of page,
links to other social networking sites,

check out the test site http://www.phoenixtest.org.uk to get an idea of what im looking to do.

Any recommendations would be very very welcome as searching through the hundreds of themes available is proving to be an impossible mission!

  • Try looking for a blue, 2-column theme via the Theme Repository’s tag filter. That might narrow it down a little.

honestly, i have looked absolutely everywhere for the right theme and cannot find anything.

I’m willing to pay for the theme and have searched places like themeforest, but to no avail as it needs all the above features 🙁

    Image gallery,
    Members area,
    newsletter,

These would be best provided via plugins.

    Drop down menus,
Site map at bottom of page,
links to other social networking sites,

These could be provided by adapting a pre-existing theme (although many themes with horizontal menus do feature dropdowns) but could also be provided by plugins.

so using my existing theme, can i change the way the drop-downs menus disappear?
also, do you have any recommendations on which plugins are best for the items mentioned?

thanks for your help, im new to wordpress!

can i change the way the drop-downs menus disappear?

In theory, you should be able to do this using CSS (and perhaps a little jQuery for the fancier effects).

Can’t give any specific recommendations for plugins, I’m afraid.

no probs, managed to do most of what i want to with widgets and plugins.

thanks a lot for your help… and on a slightly different note…

can i make a button/page that i can put into my menu that will let users return to the first page that you see when you go to the site?

    thanks!!

Do you mean a Home link? Have you looked at creating custom menu?

    (@ralphispoon)

Yep, so i’ve made a custom menu and want the home button (page) that i’ve made to take me back to the first page you see or otherwise once someone has used the site and looked around the pages, they cant easily get back to the first page (i say this as the people that will be using the site may not know that if you click on the logo at the top, it takes you there)

    Check out the site

any tips/hints regarding the site would be really appreciated!

    thanks

Try setting up a Home menu entry with a custom url pointing to the site’s home page.

erm, wouldn’t have a clue how to do that. maybe its a stupid idea to have it – after all, there is a massive blue button at the top to click! haha

any ideas how to get rid of that ‘vision and values’ page? i deleted it from the admin dashboard but it just won’t disappear from the menu…. grrrr!

    😀

wouldn’t have a clue how to do that

any ideas how to get rid of that ‘vision and values’ page?

You’ve added it via your custom menu.

in the clichéd online language… OMG.

I am a ‘n00b’ and deserve to be kicked in the nuts for this obvious mistake.

you’re a legend. i’ll try the cutom link page too.

    you’ve saved me

    😀

No problem. We all have days like that. 🙂
