• I am in the process of creating a new post and I am embedding videos and other links into the post. For some reason, all of a sudden, every time I add the codes they disappear right after I add them. If I add them and then save the post, the codes are gone. Can someone please help me. I am trying to get my post out soon.

  • Are you using the HTML or Visual Editor tab?

I put the codes in the HTML tab, but if I hit “save draft” right after I’ve put the codes in, they disappear. Or even if I switch to the visual editor tab right after, they still disappear.

Don’t switch back & forth between tabs. If you’ve used the HTML tab, you cannot revert to using the Visual Editor for that page or post – otherwise, you will lose most (if not all) of your markup.

Ok so I just put all the codes back into the HTML tab and clicked save draft. When I did that, it automatically switched to the visual editor tab by itself. Then I noticed that the videos were showing up in the visual editor tab, but when I hit preview post, nothing showed up. Can you help me with that? What did I do wrong?

By the sounds of it, there’s something funky going in with your site. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I just tried your first suggestion. If I am understanding you correctly, you wanted me to deactivate all of the plugins, then try to put in the codes to my post and see if it would work with ALL plugins deactivated. I tried that, but when I tried to preview it, a white error page came up. I don’t know if that’s because all the plugins were deactivated or not. But I did notice that it still automatically switched back to the visual editor tab by itself when I hit save draft.

Did I do it right? What does this mean?

Please help. Is there any way that someone could do some trouble shooting for me. I am really a novice to the techy side of things. I need to get my post out soon.

Did you try any other the steps I suggested?

I am trying but I am so scared that I am going to screw up my website because I don’t know what I’m doing and I’m slightly confused by the instructions.

I did switch to the Twenty Ten theme and tried putting the codes into my post but the same thing happened as before.

Now I am trying your 3rd suggestion and I am really struggling. I have gone into Filezilla and renamed the plugins folder to plugins.hold. Then it says create a new folder called plugins. I don’t see a way to create a new folder within Filezilla so am I supposed to just create a new folder on my desktop and then upload it in Filezilla?

Ok, I completed all of your suggestions and my codes are still disappearing. Do you have any more suggestions? Or is there a way I can get some technical support from one of you? I really need this to work in my posts. I post videos and embed links often.

    Site url?

That’s not the Twenty Ten theme.

Yes, I know. I changed it back when it didn’t work.

Did you try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Preferably using the latter method.
