Yes but then your URL would be /blog/blog/ and all your subsites would have /blog/ in their URLs too. Oh and subdomains wouldn’t work at all.

I need WordPress at /blog/ and /comic/, but not at the top level. So that might actually work. Do you mean that posts would appear at /blog/blog/? If so I could change that to /blog/posts/ or something, couldn’t I?
The sanest thing to do may just be to use a separate install for /blog/ and /comic/. I am curious how you would get something at /blog/ with multisite though.
I would install wordpress in http://domain.com and make a static front page to show whatever I want and a separate ‘recent posts’ for my main site as http://domain.com/recent or something.
Then my ‘main’ blog would post everything at http://domain.com/blog/postname or what have you.
I would make a second blog called ‘comics’ and it would use the URL http://domain.com/comics/postname 🙂
