Best way to creat a magazine style main page?

Hi All,
I was just wondering if anyone has suggestions for the best way to create a magazine style homepage, like a content manager, in wordpress. I would like to feature articles with a thumbnail and more link. Maybe a choice of most recent or favorites…something quick and easy. Any suggestions?
