How big is too big for a WP database?

    I manage one blog where the WP backup files are almost 30megs. There are a LOT of posts on this blog. The backup plugin has been unable to email the file for a loooong time, I assume due to its size, and lately I’ve been getting the dreaded Port 80 error occasionally. Plus WP is pretty slow with this site (hosted on GoDaddy. Are we pushing the ability of the software to handle the db? Should something be done?

    Have you tried some of the caching plugins? That may make the site a bit faster.

    I’d also want to know how big a site can be. I’m contemplating moving a very large (3000 posts) from MT to WordPress.

    I’ve had bad experiences with wp-cache malfunctioning and causing the site to not appear to update. Besides, this site obviously gets enough new content that I don’t want to cache old builds.

    Anyway, the slowness is on the back-end, not so much for the user. That and the errors (and to a lesser extent the inability to email a backup file) leads me to believe that there’s a size at which WP starts to lose its ability to manage the DB efficiently. Anyone know anything about this?

    I have a client with a DB of over 100MB, and that’s been fine so far. Her backups are now being managed with VaultPress though, so much easier than doing periodic manual backups for her 🙂

    I have a site with a database of: 222.57 MB

    This is site having a lot of problems and runs slow pretty often. Do you think the size of the database is too big? If so, where do I go from here? Thanks.
