Why doesn't Technorati generate a link fr. my tags? (22 posts)

I have used Ttags & Ultimate Tag Warrior to produce Technorati tags. I've noticed that sometimes the tags do produce listings at the Technorati site and sometimes they don't.

I've tried to look through the Tech. site to see what it says about this issue but it's silent as far as I can tell.

Would anyone have any links to sites that explain how and when Technorati will create such tags. What criteria does Technorati use to decide whether or not to generate a link fr. a tag? Should Technorati be linking to every Technorati tag I create? Or does Technorati pick & choose among tags?

This is a Technorati issue and not a WP issue. The criterias for what Technorati considers a tag can be found at http://technorati.com/help/tags.html

As I wrote above, I've already checked out the Tech. site & that pg. specifically regarding tags. Nothing at the site that I've found addresses the issue I raised above. I'm interested not in knowing how to create a tag, but how the tag works in terms to communicating w. the Tech. site. Is Tech. supposed to create a link at its site every time someone publishes a post w. a tag? Or does it use more limited criteria in deciding when to create such a link? That's what I'd like to know.

You'd need to contact Technorati for that information, since as you state, "I'm interested not in knowing how to create a tag, but how the tag works in terms to communicating w. the Tech. site. Is Tech. supposed to create a link at its site every time someone publishes a post w. a tag? Or does it use more limited criteria in deciding when to create such a link?"

This isn't something germane to WordPress.

There is an overall issue with this on Technorati's end, and Technorati is refusing to acknowledge it. We would appreciate it if you would join us in submitting weekly support tickets to Technorati. For the whole story, please read this thread in its entirety:

Wow macmanx - this thread hates you I guess.... showed me your post from the index, I clicked through, you weren't there.... then you're there twice!

Y'know, I don't actually have any idea if this could be part of the problem....

UTW sets up the hrefs as http: // www. technorati etc. - but if you dig into some of the "use this code to link" stuff on the site, their code is http: // technorati etc. I don't have any idea where to tweak that particular output in UTW....

0_0 You're right. I posted again because my post didn't appear before. Now it's there twice. ... Maybe it's because I'm doing a marathon run of the first season of Lost right now. I must be seeing things. But, these whispers that I have been hearing, they are real. We are not alone on this island!

Nah, it has to do with the tag structure. I have been studying this for literally a whole month. Technorati has always accepted three tag structures: <a href="" tag="">, <category>, and <dc:subject>. But, for some reason, the Technorati bot has only been recognizing <a href="" tag=""> for the past month. Check the fore-mentioned thread for more info. I don't know what's going on, but it's time that someone fixed it.

Um. Okay.... you're scarin' me.... *laughing* (I deleted one....) Anyway, seems as if Technorati isn't too worried about this sort of problem. This kind of thing always makes me wonder about the actual solidity of not only a company's backend but their flooring....

But I'm using that <a href="" tag=""> structure and mine aren't appearing either....

... speak of the devil ...

I just made a post, and its tag was successfully catalogued by Technorati. Wow, someone may have actually fixed the Technorati bot. Lol, and it only took a month! I'll give this a few more days, maybe it was just a fluke, but I do hope that things have finally been fixed.

Vicki, check with Technorati support. Maybe your blog has been blocked for some reason or another. Believe me, it does happen.

Oh yes, I know it happens, just hadn't thought to check - I will tomorrow, just realized how late it is here. The cat is whining about bedtime!

Um.... and I note that now, a post I made several days ago but just "retagged" tonight has also shown up. So maybe it's just a combination of them getting their act together and the time it takes to ramp back up to speed.

    Well, something to watch anyway!

The previous result was just a fluke. The problem is still at large. I have just submitted my fifth weekly support ticket, and I have yet to receive any form of non-automated response to any of my submitted tickets. ... oh goody ...

How much does Technorati charge ?
I thought it was a free service ........

Um. Did someone say they charged? It's free AFAIK - unless things changed in the last few days?

I find it amusing (in an odd way) that when people post here about the shortcomings of WordPress, they are reminded that the product is free and that the support is also free.... so shouldn't that same criteria be applied to another company that not only is also free but has seen it's 'business' explode in numbers ?

Oh. Um.... apparently I am too far out in left field today to catch irony as it whizzes past my blonde and senior head.... Sorry! *laughing*

Oh, I know that it's free. And, believe me, I understand the free service vs. paid service argument. But, I have been submitting support tickets for five weeks. Yes, Technorati is a free service, but I would have expected a response to one of those tickets or some form of acknowledgement by now, especially when the issue at hand has been affecting Technorati's core functionality for over a month.

For example, pretend that all WordPress blogs began to display a large error on every monthly archives page. We wouldn't remind the users "that [WordPress] is free and that the support is also free". We would acknoledge the issue and begin to fix it ASAP.

Technorati is not working for a lot of people It was giving me really great success when I was on Blogspot.com. But now that have my own domain and wordpress it not seeing the tags at all. So what is a good alternative to Technorati?

Cool I'll check out IceRocket. But I think Technorati was really good and clean for tagging when it was working right. I can really see the difference...
