automatic update inconsitencies

    I was about to update an installation I have in a subdirectory/subdomain to 3.0.4 using the ‘update automatically’ button (it has worked previously). Suddenly it asks for my host/username/password. Nothing I enter seems to work. I go back to my admin page, and I try to automatically update a couple of plugins. No problems.

    WTF?

    And is this at all related to the problem I sometimes have with a subdomain/subdir just getting to the admin page, i.e. where I try to go to wp.mydomain.com/wp-admin, but the resulting url on the password page has a redirect to wp.mydomain.com/wp/wp-admin, which then redirects me to another password page!

    The problem here was that I was going to

    wp.mydomain.com/wp-admin

    I should have been going to

    wp.mydomain.com/wp-admin/

    Note the trailing slash! It is uber-important!!
