I would appreciate any help on this. While editing content, specifically photos, on my WordPress site, my screen displayed a 500 internal server error. Now, when I attempt to log back onto WordPress or simply view my site, the same error message appears. Any ideas why this could be happening?

Error 500 is too generic. It can be caused by many factors including server errors. Did you check your error logs?
Can you post your site URL?

I apologize, but I do not know how or where to go for the error log. The url is http://www.jatelierinc.com .

Your host can help you with the error logs.
You may try these (use FTP/ hosting control panel):
    – Deactivate all plugins and see if it helps
    – Revert to Twenty Twelve theme and see if it helps
    – Manually update WordPress except wp-contents by replacing the current files from a freshly downloaded copy of WP

Backup your site (including database) so that you can restore your site if anything goes wrong.
    – If all of the fails, contact your host.
