   Moderators,

   I'm becoming frustrated with this. I''m encountering this during file import from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. And today I captured one detail - which I don't know if it will help you figure out what's wrong with it.

   here's the status/URL it displays when just before it prompts the server error:
   http://mysite.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=wordpress&step=1

   can someone from wordpress check it?

   This is a volunteer forum. No one here has access to either wordpress.com blogs or your own WP blog.

   Sorry - I've not tried a wordpress.com to self-hosted blog import myself.

   Crisn,

   Did you ever come to a resolution? I am experiencing the same thing you described. Simply clicking the WordPress link on the Import page I get a 500 error. I never get a chance to select the file (so where the file is coming from is of no consequence). This is on the latest version, 2.8.4.
