[resolved] 500 Internal Server Error due to mistake in changing custom permalink (2 posts)

    I made a careless mistake when I was editing the permalink settings (in custom structure) for my website. Now I'm getting 500 (internal server) error messages when I try to log back in as admin and when I try to open the website.

    I've tried looking for .htaccess by ftp but couldn't find it. I've also tried creating new .htaccess files to replace the original file using

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

    But when I try renaming them, the filetype keeps changing to "File" rather than "htaccess-file". I've tried forcing hidden files to show on filezilla, but no different files appear. At this point, I'm not sure what else I can do to fix this. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Problem is fixed. Website was on a Windows server so switched to Linux server with htaccess-file working.
