500 Error

    When I try to log into the wp-admin I get either a blank page, or an error 500 message saying that there is an internal server error.

    So at the moment I cannot get into wordpress to edit my website. Please advise.

    When your server produces the 500 error page, the last line says:

    More information about this error may be available in the server error log

    So, first place to look is your server error log. Without knowing your hosting environment I can’t advise how you would do that in your particular case. Maybe through Cpanel or something similar?

    If you can’t view your logs, the error is most likely caused by a new or updated plugin or theme. If you changed something recently, retrace your steps and revert what you changed. You’re going to have to do this through FTP or SSH.
