Good idea, OTN. I’d like to be able to hide (or disable) the thing so that it doesn’t keep breaking my “Recent Comments” widget on the dashboard – the effects are visible on this screenshot: http://beardedgit.smugmug.com/General/miscellaneous/akismetbreaksmyrecentcomments/1119169690_icZsj-L.jpg
I contacted Akismet directly about this well over a week ago, I was told on the 10th that it would be fixed “soon”. No idea what “soon” is, though 🙁
I’ve been looking at all the various hassles that other users have had (and indeed are still having) with version 2.5.0 and it does lead me to ask the big question… was it was tested properly before it was released?
It doesn’t look like it was.
DOH! – looks like I didn’t “test” the above text before I released it… too many “was”s. Sorry.
LOL @ self
Yes, it was tested very well, including a soft launch on all WordPress.com blogs prior to release.
The status badge appearance is changed in Akismet 2.5.1, and is only displayed when it’s needed.
Cheers for that, tellyworth, 2.5.1 does indeed resolve my “Recent Comments” issues. I am a happy bunny once again 🙂
I still reckon that if 2.5.0 was “tested very well” as you claim, and passed that testing, there must be something awry with the test data, the test method or both for there to have been such a range of issues to resolve after release. Probably a subject for a different thread, though.
