• I am trying to create a public profile for the authors in my blog. I have multi-author blog site and with the use of a plugin, I have made a list of the authors and when clicked on the author name, it shows the public profile of the author.

What I want to have is the facility to allow users (only authorized are allowed to view the blog) to comment on the author. Author’s public profile is not like a blog or page where people can comment. But it is more like feedback/references on the author by others which will be displayed in his profile. The admin can choose to allow/not allow author to delete the feedback. Ofcourse admin has the rights to do it.

Is there any plugin/facility to do this? It would really help me out. I’m a newbiew in WP editing so any help would be appreciated.

I could really use some help with this one pls?

this is a pretty in depth plugin. However, I am not sure if it allows for control over the comments like that? Give it a go. Maybe it will allow you to create a group, put users in it, and only they can comment on those particular items

I did play around with that plugin before. That’s more related to restrictions and permissions isn’t it? Not extending the user’s profile. I found a few that do expand the profile but nothing allows me to comment.

I saw a plugin called “Author Page Comments”. According to the description, that is what I am looking for. But it doesn’t seem to work and I don’t know enough php to debug it. 🙁

The author and web URL posted in the comments of that plugin is not active anymore. If someone who knows PHP can understand and fix it, I would really like it.

I mean I would really appreciate it.

I thought you were just looking for a way to control the ability to comment.

Are you also looking to actually set up the profile page? Or is that in place already?

Sorry….I’m not toally following you (must be too early)

Ok. It’s testimonials (found the right word. I apologize. English is not my 1st language) that I want to have.

I need to setup the profile page as well. I have the data through meta tags. I need to setup the profile page for the authors (multi-author site) and then users will come to the author’s page and write their testimonial about him/her. These testimonials will be viewable by others.

Through this, I am trying to let people share their opinion of the author. It won’t be a discussion but just a few lines written by the users.

Hope I explained properly this time. 🙂

OK, well I’d recommend some google searching about WordPress author templates. I have seen many. I was about to start doing something myself with author tempplates so I know there is good reading to be found. But with a bit of searching, you can find some really good info. I’ve seen some tutorials that will help you add extra fields to the profile, so you can get exactly the info you want from your authors on the backend. Then you can call these new fields to the author template and get that all styled the way you want.

As for the feedback portion…. will all your testimonials come from members of your site? You could use custom post types, but maybe that isn’t the best way? EDIT, here’s a plugin that is supposed to do that http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tb-testimonials/

I’m not sure about the best way to get the control on commenting you are looking for… But I would definitely start with getting the author template just right with some of the available tutorials. If I come across some stellar links while I’m working on my own, I’ll try to post them back, but you should have no problem on the google

I have already got a plugin to add extra fields in the back end for authors to fill their details. That part is done.

Still trying to figure out the layout because it is conflicting with my theme. But that’s something that can be rectified.

As for the comments, have a look at this plugin (Testimonials Manager).
    http://www.profitplugs.com/testimonials-manager-wordpress/

It also shows how the testimonials are displayed. Exactly how I want to do it. Only difference is that this plugin is for the entire site and the testimonials is in side bar widget. I need mine to be author specific and since only logged in users will be able to write testimonials, they will fill the textbox and it will be displayed like how it is shown in the plugin in author’s public profile page.

If I know php myself, I would figure out how to do this. But without php knowledge, I’m having a hard time decoding other people’s coding.

did you ever have a solution to this?

I have the same problem and the author comments plugin does not work.
I have searched hard online and there is nothing, …the best solution i can come up with is to find a way to make posts for each author, and then hide them, but use them to collect the comments for display on the author pages.

Let me know if you found a solution.

    Thanks
