Hacked, now links don't work

    Currently running 3.0.3.

    A few hours ago, I noticed a lot of .htaccess files that caused searches to our website to go to a spam site. I have removed the .htaccess files that contained that code, but now I’m seeing that internal links in my blog are not working.

    Example: at http://blog.tapestryofgrace.com/ clicking on the title of the most recent blog post (“Love is Patient”) or any of the categories or the comments link causes a 404 error. However, links to sites OUTSIDE the blog are working (see the link to “CCEF” in the blog post or the Twitter link).

    Any ideas what’s happening?

    Hello togblogadmin,

    Check that your permalink structure is correct. But also check your theme templates for added code. At the moment your 404 page is redirecting to a page of ads.

    All the best with your learning experience. I find things like this step up my skills immensely.

    I checked the Permalink settings, and it’s set to

    Month and name http://blog.tapestryofgrace.com/2010/12/sample-post/

    which seems to be how they’re listed in the links.

    Any other ideas?

    (I’m going to check with our graphic designer … he tweaked the original theme, but hasn’t made any recent changes to it that I know about.)

    If your htaccess file got hacked, then I’d be doing a full audit of all the files, database and system settings. You will rarely see an attack on one vector these days and it’s likely they’ve opened a backdoor.
