I couldn't find anything like this searching here or the web. Honestly, I don't know whether it is me or coincidence or what.

The night before last I installed Fahim Farook's Blacklist plugin to manage an annoying, but not overwhelming, amount of comment SPAM. I went to bed happy that all was well.

For the last day and a half, though, I have been inundated with emails for deleted comments (yes, I now turned off those emails). Literally, I've gotten thousands, and they all have an email address formatted as: "test [at] some number plus test.com with a similar URL.

Did I accidentally turn on some bouncing test, when I installed the Blacklist plugin? Is there a setting I am missing (other than turning off the email notice)?

Or might this all be a complete and total coincidence of timing, and I am just getting spammed more than I could dream?

    Thanks for any help.

Update to 1.5.2, then install these two:
    http://www.ioerror.us/software/bad-behavior/
    and
    http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/

That should see things a lot better.

The Blacklist plugin has pretty-much been obsoleted by the blacklist feature in WP v1.5. And, as far as I know, the Blacklist plugin is no longer in development and no longer supported. I recommend trying one of the more complete anti-spam solutions, such as Bad Behavior, Akismet, or Spam Karma.

Thanks. I did what Podz suggested.

Of course, I was trying to avoid an upgrade, because (a) I'm lazy and (b) I knew there would be many little tweaks I would forget. I'm still finding them. sigh.

The nine-hundred and ninety-nine fake spam comments have ended, though. So, I'm more happy than not.

Thanks very enthusiastically for such quick responses.

well, I have just installed a copy of wordpress and uploaded bad-behavior plugin.. so got cut off the admin page with bad-behavior's 412 error page. I am sure that I am not a bot, nor a spammer... anyone experienced this, and how often GOOD people are banned by this anti-spam plugin?

Are you hosted with Godaddy ? If so - it is entirely their fault.

You could check io_error's site and read his docs ?

As for why GoDaddy do that ? No idea and the tech reasons are beyond me.
