This plugin doesn’t recognise a multisite install of WordPress. It populates the options fields on the primary blog but on other blogs, the options are all empty.

The code and the database are only aware of single site installs of WordPress. The original Subscribe to Comments plugin, worked across multisite installs.

Thanks for any attention you give to this problem.

  • I’ve never said it works on multisite environments, so technically the plugin is not ‘broken’ as you said 🙁 It’s a problem with WordPress, not my plugin… you will have to use a plugin called Proper Network Activation to make my plugin work fine, I suppose 🙂

OK. Thanks. Since WP3, I’ve just assumed that all plugins and themes have to be multisite aware as there’s only one WP codebase now and you said that upgrades from Subscribe to Comments would work.

It would be great if you could work on this and I’d be happy to test development versions for you to make it multisite aware.

    Thank you.

Unfortunately that is not true, most plugins are not compatible with WordPress Multisite, because of a ‘problem’ that the core developers are not going to solve anytime soon. There’s nothing I can do about that. You will need to use Proper Network Activation as a temporary workaround. This is necessary if you are ‘network activating’ most plugins, to date.

PS: the other plugin was compatible with multisite just because it used a different database approach, modifying CORE tables instead of using its own structures.

By the way, if you want I’m available as a freelance developer to customize this plugin to run in a network environment.
