Hello All I hope this is the right area to post a question, as I am brand new to this forum. I recently downloaded the latest sitemap wordpress plugin v2.7, uploaded it to the plugins folder on my server, and activated the sitemap feature in wordpress. When I hit the “Build Sitemap” button in WordPress I get the following error message:

Could not write into /home/(my password)/public_html/sitemap.xml

Could not write into /home/(my password)/public_html/sitemap.xml.gz

Any ideas on what may be wrong?

    Thanks

  • open notepad.
    press space once
    save as “sitemap.xml”
    save again as “sitemap.xml.gz”
upload both to the /public_html/ directory (it’s where the file wp-rss2.php is)
    chmod both files to 777

    That should sort the problem.

    Thanks.

I uploaded the two files sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz to the root directory, made them writable (CHMOD 777) and tried the “Build Sitemap” again in wordpress, but this time the screen just goes completely grey and stays that way.

Could it just be taking a very long time because the site is quite large?

Not sure what is going on? Any help would be awesome.

    Thanks
    Serge

I recommend contacting the plugin’s developer.

Thanks Serge! I tried it, and your workaround worked for me.

macmanx: are you sure you’re uploaded it to the directory you specified in the plugin administration area?

    Thanks again,
    jag.
