And how is it going to look after a few months when the blog gets archived?

I am afraid it’s a misunderstanding. As soon as you write a post – it gets “archived”, i.e. it goes to the database. You can have 7,000 posts, and on the main page there will be always shown only so many latest posts as you defined in your options. The rest will be visible either clicking on a month name in the sidebar, or clicking on a category name – in these two latter cases “filtered” by month or category. So, what is the question?
People can find posts by chronological order (monthly archives), by categories, by using the search feature.
