var similar to $singal for categories

    does anyone know if there is a variable similar to $single that you can use to restrict things that will show up on any category and/or archive pages?
    also, i should note that i am using mod_rewrite for the permalink structure – if that matters

    Hmm… anyone have an answer for this?
    I am also trying to figure out how I can have things only appear on my main “index” page or the root “www.site.com” page and not on the archives or categories page. $single is great for posts, that is for certain!
