• I didn’t want to do the multiple site install. I think I’ve got everything setup (as it appears to be running) for NUMBER1 site.

    First, the set up:
    1. I first created the database through MAMP for site Number 1. I called that database Number 1.

2.I created a folder for NUMBER1 site up in users/mycomputer/sites/NUMBER1. This is where the wordpress files now live.

This is also the location for the Apache Document root.
    2. I also created a folder for NUMBER2 site in users/mycomputername/sites/NUMBER2.

    Here are my questions:
    3. Do I copy all the wordpress files into the NUMBER2 folder just like I did for NUMBER1?

    4. Do I launch MAMP and have to manually change the document root from NUMBER1 to NUMBER2 each time I want to work on the individual sites? Is this how I do it?

Or, have I over complicated all this. Imean, don’t I just sign on with a username and password somehow now?

    5. Or, how do I create another wordpress site now? What about the localhost:8888?

Yes. And set up a 2nd database and re-run the install.

You should just be able to navigate directly to each of the sites.

How do I navigate to each of the sites? I’m putting in the name of the site and password and it’s shaking at me! šŸ™‚

Just got some sort of response from ESMI which is nothing but the home page of the forum so that doesn’t help at all. I appreciate the attempt but sending me the forum’s home page is worthless. To respond to your question why are you asking the question? There should be a step by step answer.
    Click on this.
    find this.
    do this.
    go to this.
That’s what I’m trying to find out.
I downloaded the wordpress softwoare into a folder on my computer, and launched the mamp and everything is great and created a database and all is wonderful and life is stupendous now how do I edit this new site?

    wp-admin/
    locahouse 8888
    go to the folder
    click this
    do that

I am not seeing this at all as you can see.
    šŸ™‚

    Go to harddrive.
    scroll down to this folder
    click on this.
    or,
    launch browser,
    enter localhost8888:/wp-admin
then enter username and password (except this doesn’t work).
    so, if that isn’t correct
    what?

Go and check that link again! It is not the home page to a forum!

Excuse me but you are sending me a post that is worthless. I DID ALL THAT already.

I’m posting every few minutes because I’m frustrated and trying to get help not some lame posting to a site that doesn’t help me.

If you can’t help, then just admit it and say you can’t and dont’ understand the question. Sending me how to load MAMP after I’ve successfully done that merely shows a lack of understanding of the question; or, this is a computer responding to a computer.

In any event, I appreciate you responding but it isn’t an answer to the question.

    Do you like blue?
Answer: Here is a post on why the sky is blue.

Did you run http://localhost:8888/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php? If so, you already know where your site is on the local machine.

Now if you navigate to http://localhost:8888/wordpress/ you should see your default installation of WordPress.

From the “useless post” that I sent you to.

    unable to connect
    I ran the install.
    It worked three days ago.
I created two databases for the two different sites.
I launch mamp and see the info for the site I want to work on.
    That’s all I remember.

Maybe this is an easier way to get there from here.

i’m sitting in front of the computer.
i’m staring at my home screen.
    what do I do next?
    I’m on a mac.

    No I don’t.
    I’m stupid.
I see there is a folder that has the site on it.
Don’t have a clue how to work on it.

Did you run the install script for WordPress – not MAMP?

    Getting “Packets out of order”
    Have copied wordpress into MAMP/htdocs
Have the other two sites under username/sites/site1 for example
have the documentary root set on MAMP as username/sites/site1
The apache setting is 8888; the mysql setting is 8889
The config file is Site1, localhost: or localhost:8888 or localhost:8889 (have tried all) I have tried localhost:8888/site1 with a slash at the end, without a slash at the end, with http:// and without
I have made sure the config file is not still called config sample
I have green lights on MAMP stating everything downloaded properly.

I get “Packets out of order” if I attempt to make the three changes in the config file. I have not made any changes in any other information in the config sample file. I don’t want to know or learn that. I just want to build a wordpress site offline, than upload the files later using ftp fetch.

Guess that is way too much to ask. Thank you for your help and support but “this isn’t working or it doesn’t work or it isn’t as elegantly simple as it’s made out to be” apparently isn’t an answer.

I’ve not used MAMP (I use Apache on Windows) but “Packets out of order” sounds like an issue with your server.

    (@jamesgangcreative)

wouldn’t that be mamp? the server?
