I have installed WordPress 3.0.1 with the default theme (TwentyTen), and site is working fine.

Uploaded a couple of themes, Mystique.2.4.2 and Atahualpa353.

They are listed in the Appearance—Theme subpanel, but:

Selecting preview of Mystique renders a blank white page.

Selecting preview of Atahaua renders a white page with the text line at top: “Powered by WordPress & the Atahualpa Theme by BytesForAll. Discuss on our WP Forum “

I went ahead and installed Atahualpa, and the Admin panel has options for setting up the theme, but still displays the same as the preview.

I can switch back to the default with no problems.

I have a couple of plug-ins, but deactivating them makes no difference.

I have not edited any php files, or made changes in the editor.

Any ideas what could be wrong would be appreciated.

  • Have you tried:

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – increasing the memory available to PHP?

    Hi Esmi,

I re-uploaded fresh copies of wp-admin, and wp-includes folders. No change.

I am unsure what you mean by “reset” the plugin folder?

As far as a memory issue, I am getting no error messages at all?

See the link I gave above where all will be revealed. 😉

Some servers will suppress the output of all errors to the screen. Certainly the symptoms that you describe would fit with a memory problem. If you have access to server error logs, it might be worth checking them.

    Follow up:

I was able to get Mystique.2.4.2 to work, as well as a couple more themes. The problem seems to be that all of the files were not uploaded on the first pass, so user error on my part.

However, I was never able to get Atahualpa353 to work. I re-uploaded it, and then downloaded it to ensure that all files were present.

I did ‘reset’ the plugins, with no effect. I guess I won’t be able to try Atahualpa.

    Thanks esmi.
