  • We just switched our site from being administered by a web hosting company to doing it ourselves. The hosting company always had the site locked down so tight that even though I had administrator privileges, I couldn’t update WP, plugins, modify the theme or anything.

They have now, in their words, moved the site to a new server and given me full administrative control. There are a couple of things missing though. Only the incoming links displays on the dashboard. “Right now” and some of the other options I have access to on other WP installations I manage are not even available to select on the screen options pulldown. Also, the Posts sub-menu is not even available in the left sidebar.

Is there somewhere in the settings that these are turned off or on or do I have to edit something in the underlying site code?

  • Look to see if they have a plugin called role scooper installed. If they have on install it.

It seems to me that they have you (admin) restricted in what you can do and might have put another type of member, say subscriber, they might have giving them admin rights.
