Thumbnails from External Files

Hi,

I already have an extensive managed photo gallery that I’m planning on keeping on using. However, I like the [gallery] shortcut and how easily it makes and handles thumbnails.

Is there some plugin that will create thumbnails from a list of URL images that I provide it — I would like to avoid duplicating data and using avoid using WordPress to manage the album, just have my content displayed neatly using thumbnails and links.

For example, I can provide something like
