Displaying a customized music database
-
I am currently using a WordPress template (obviously) called WP-Smooth designed by Solostream. It is very flexible and customizable.
I recently had two websites merged. The old one was not a WordPress site. The new one was originally a sub-domain, but changed to the primary domain.
In the process, a music database I had custom built on the old site is no longer visible. I say no longer visible because all the files and folders were backed up and archived thanx to the incredible tech support by Hostgator.
What I need to know is how to “manifest” or make visible this music database either through the WordPress platform or by customizing the template.
I don’t believe I can install (make visible) the database in a single post. Maybe on a page? How do I upload the files and folders for the database into a page?
Or, do I create a space or area in the template that allows featuring the database?
This database was designed to feature my music. It allows for the unlimited upload of mp3s, includes a window for lyrics (along side the audio file), and another place for song descriptions (this could also feature coverart). It is searchable by title, genre, style and mood. It’s a database of both original songs and a library of production music.
To flip this question around, is there a plug-in that will create a database for me? Why install a clumsy old database that still needs work and may have difficult coding or programming issues, when I can install a plug-in that allows me to “fill in the blanks?”
Is there such a plug-in?
I also get confused when talking about databases. I realize now that WordPress is a database. I’m just becoming familiar with MySQL, but I still don’t know what it is or what it can do.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I realize I might need to do some homework so any link to resources is also appreciated. Thanx.
