• Hi – I work for a Public Relations Company. We recently went to set up a blog for one of our more well known clients only to find that someone has already acquired a blog with that URL and they are pretending to be that person/business (it’s a famous salon…) Is there anything we can do about this?

A Quick Response would be appreciated. Thanks so much. KRISTI

Use WhoIs and find out who registered the domain AND who is hosting it.

Contact them (first the person running the site, THEN the webhost, THEN the registrar, would be my suggested order). If you’re working for a PR firm, get your lawyer to fire up a cease/desist (IIRC it’s an impersonation clause or defamation… can’t remember which).

Just to echo ipstenu’s response, there’s absolutely nothing we can do here. If the blog is hosted at wordpress.com, you might be able to contact support@wordpress.com for initial assistance but otherwise, this is a strictly legal issue.
