Later versions of WP Super Cache is occasionally doing multiple caching, usually after a WP-Cron pause. No buttons touched, it does this all by itself. Needless to say, this pushes up the load.

liangzai – this is a problem with wp-cron unfortunately. The same task can run twice in parallel. In the development version (linked in another reply to you) I’ve added a check to stop this. Please give it a go!
