how to create multi column layouts?

    After all these years, it seems like WP would finally have an easy way to implement multi-column layouts. I know a theme can have a sidebar, or multiple sidebars, but all I want to be able to do is have the body text divided up into multiple columns.

    I know I can just use the HTML editor and write a table to create columns, but I want to avoid that mainly because I have to hand this off to someone who doesn’t know HTML. I know I could install a plugin that does tables, but I’d rather avoid that too. I know I could add custom fields, but that just seems like a kludge for something some basic, and a layout technique that’s been around since the printing press was invented.

    Other CMS’s tend to handle this by letter the user specific text boxes for the page editor.

    Is there a good plugin for WP that makes this possible?

    What about the page options themselves? In the pages section, if you choose any of your pages to edit, there is a “Page Attributes” section on the right side of the screen. I’m using a custom template. Under “Template” I have a selection menu with different options to choose from: 3 Column Page, Portfolio Page, etc. I can choose any of them. That may work for you.

    Alternatively, since you’re familiar with HTML, you might want to create a template and upload it so that it is available for the next user. I’ve tweaked my custom templates already to suit my needs 🙂

    Those attributes only add things like template specific objects or widgets. I can’t, for example, just have two columns of text.

    And sure I could build it into the template, but that would still not be very intuitive for the user nor would it solve a major issue with wordpress.

    Have you looked at the Magazine Columns plugin?

    That might be slightly better than HTML tables. I’m a little worried it’s kinda old and hasn’t been updated. I’ll give it a try, thanks!
