• I have been running my sites on wordpress for many years. Recently I have created a few new websites and this was under a training programme. The instructor installed thesis on the website and advised me to do so on my other ones as well.

I don’t pay for themes as I think the free themes are good enough. But is the hype over thesis really true, or can we do without it? I guess their main claim is to do with the coding which is good for SEO. But are the other themes really not that good that we should start switching over to thesis?

I had installed thesis on 2-3 other sites after the training but now I really am wondering whether it was worth it or not because it seems difficult to work with. I actually prefer genesis because of the great themes that are available which I don’t think thesis offers (I don’t like the premium themes people have designed for thesis). However, I’m not keen on splashing out more money for another type of framework after spending so much on thesis.

What do you think of thesis? Is it really needed? Please discuss.

  • I don’t think it’s needed. A lot of people like it, I’m sure it’s great. But, there are tonnes of free themes out there. They are continually improving. So many options available, and with a little research, you can find some great free themes…really great. A little more research and you can tweak code yourself for great SEO or anything else. I personally would never pay for a theme, but I like to learn things myself

Thesis is a great theme! It’s just that you’ll have to do some fine tuning to make your site really stand out. The backend is really reliable and updates are frequent.

That said, if you can find a theme that suits your needs, whether it be free or premium, then that’s what you get. You can do some basic SEO with AIO or Platinum and use other plugins to make up for some of the things that Thesis offers out of the box.
