• I’m considering starting a simple art site, and have been researching several CMS packages. WordPress is near the top of my list, although I have a question. I understand the focus of WordPress is on blogging, but is there any mechanism for managing images and arraigning them, and their associated blog text, into navigatable galleries?

Again, this looks like a very interesting project. Keep up the good work!

  • Don’t know if this is what you are looking for but…I’m using Gallery2 http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php with the treacle WP theme. Of course, I’m hosting my own pictures so this works well for me. See a sample of what it looks like here… http://archshrk.com/?p=25
The WPG2 plugin makes it happen. http://wpg2.ozgreg.com/

Gallery2 seems nice, I tried it out with a testsite. The only real problem I see with this software is that it is too large/complicated. Also I checked out a lot of sites running Gallery2 and on different computers, but in comparison to other software it works very slow. Not really pleasant to browse throught the pages/images.

WPG2 plugin work fine and the gallery2 engine is really powerfull.
I just want to say that I don’t like use two admin panel,
    and two database.
ozgreg make a great work but I think it’s better to run a complex cms (like drupal, typo, spip…) for this kind of complex stuff. It’ll provide a more harmonious result.

    archshrk,
    Nice site and beautiful photos!
I’m using Flickr and it’s working out nicely.

I just make thumbnails myself and then link them to the image on the server. Its fast, most simple, and doesn’t annoy me.
