  • Installed a subdomain and the only way I can reach the site is with the path:
    http://meg.iwps.info/megswebsite/

ie. I must include the subdirectory. This seems to defeat the whole point of subdomains. if I use the path http://meg.iwps.info all I get is an “hello world” page. Has anyone experienced this problem or have any advice. The setup is on Godaddy and after three days they do not seem able to resolve the issue.

Did you install WordPress in the root of that subdomain, or did you install it in the /megswebsite/ directory?

    James,
Thank you for your response. I installed it as a folder in the root of the wordpress-mu (now version 3.01) directory. Do I need to have the directory outside of the wordpress-mu directory?

If you’re running multisite, why not just … Let multisite handle the subdomains?

It appears that you’ve installed wordpress twice in one domain; once in the root, and once again within the first installation. You need to access your subdomain’s root and install it there.

    ipstenu,

I do not understand your question. My understanding is that a separate copy of wordpress must be installed for each subdomain. Then you set up multisite to include each subdomain. Is that incorrect?

    batrachoid,
Yes, that is what I have. The subdomain directory is inside the root of the main multisite directory. So I need to create a directory outside of the multisite root?

With the latest version of wordpress, only one installation is required to manage all of your sites. See http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
