I was wondering if there is a maximum limitation on the number of WordPress users? Either an actual maximum number of users or just a practical limitation. I was considering using WordPress’ users to allow or disallow viewable content (sort of like subscribing). My subscriber base (WordPress users) would be between 300 and 1000 users. Any concerns?

  • Why would you want to limit the number of users? Secondly, 99% of sites that allow users to subscribe won’t get remotely close to 1000 anyway.

I don’t want to limit the number of users at all. I just want to know if there is a limit from WP. If there is, I may need to look for another solution. I know I would start with about 300 users immediately but I want to be able to expand so I want to make sure at least 1000 users won’t stress out the system. I intend to use subscribers (users) to maintain a semi private blog via permissions for an organization.

The limits I have seen referred to are related to the hardware / server limits and not the software – sites like CNN.COM use WordPress software and have not problems (some of CNN is WordPress.COM VIP – but same software) so the limits are host related –

Sorry I misunderstood. There’s no limit in WP but your host may only be able to handle so many at a time. If the number of users stresses your bandwidth allotted you may have to move to a dedicated user. 1000 users seems low enough though.
