I have our family domain (i.e. smith.org) and would like to give my brother and relatives the ability to easily setup a blog under a sub-domain of their choosing..

I already have the * wildcard setup for the domain to point back at the same IP, such that jeff.smith.org and bob.smith.org will point to the same directory root.

I would like to have it so that "jeff" or "bob" would be able to manage and administer their own blog easily and separately without possiblity of loosing the integrity of the database with cross-contamination between blogs, etc..

Is there a hack or plugin that would allow sub-domain hosting to funcation like I would need?

    Thanks,
    Shane

Here's how I do it with my host:
I make a new directory off of my user root folder (htdocs) and call it what ever. Then I go into my control panel area and register a subdomain, whose home dir is thenewly created folder. This allows me to have many subdomains each with thier own separate set of files. I'd then install WP into each folder I need, giving each one a different WP table prefix (you could use jeff_ for Jeff's and bob_ for Bob's) That way you can use one DB, but keep them separated.

Not knowing who your host is, can't give you any furhter advice. But you might want to see if the above process will work for you or not.

Depending on how much control over your hosting you have, Skippy's VHost plugin may be suitable.
