3.0.1 Upgrade – Fatal error: Out of memory

    I am having an issue when upgrading to 3.0.1. I have tried the built-in auto upgrade and using WPAU plugin. Neither work.
    This is the error:
    Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 31457280) (tried to allocate 2966269 bytes) in /homepages/37/d204637238/htdocs/rosslindsay/wp-includes/class-http.php on line 1408
    and from WPAU:

    Task Name: getlatestfiles
Task Description: Downloads / Uploads the latest files for wordpress
Task Status: Failed
Task Start Date: 2010-08-06 03:19:46
Task End Date: 2010-08-06 03:19:46
Task Log: Starting to download the file from
Could not write to local file

    What should I do? My php.ini is fine, as I changed it when I had this issue before, but I ended up manually updating the files.

    I also got the same WPAU error message like this:

    First, stop using WPAU. It was obsoleted when its functionality was rolled into WP 2.7.

    Now, try deactivating all plugins before initiating the automated upgrade. If that doesn’t work, here are three ways to increase PHP’s memory allocation:

    1. If you can edit or override the system php.ini file, increase the memory limit. For example, memory_limit = 256M

    2. If you cannot edit or override the system php.ini file, add php_value memory_limit 256M to your .htaccess file.

    3. If neither of these work, it’s time to ask your hosting provider to temporarily increase PHP’s memory allocation on your account. Keep in mind that most decent hosting providers allocate 32 MB to PHP under each account, and most decent hosting providers allow users to temporarily increase the memory allocation. If your hosting provider won’t accommodate you, perhaps it’s time to find a new hosting provider.
