Thanks for at great plugin that’s easy to use.

I’m using it for displaying pictures of books, each of them with an affiliate link directly to where my visitors can buy the book. This works fine but I wonder if it’s possible to code a transparent layer on top of the pictures, showing the little »link hand« in order to signal to the visitors, what they should do (click on the picture)…

What do you think? Is it possible?

    Pete 😉

Hi Pete, thanks for using Meteor Slides.

So you don’t just want the cursor to turn into a hand, you want an actual graphic of a clicking hand icon?

You can do a lot to edit the slideshow using CSS? This usage would be a little tricky because you want to add an image, and with CSS you can only add background images.

However, I think you could do something similar to this by making the hand graphic that you want and making it the background of the Meteor Slides div that is wrapped around all of the slides.

Then, when you hover on the images, set the img opacity to like 30 or 40 percent to partially reveal your graphic underneath.

You can see partially how this would work on my homepage, jleuze.com, where I have setup the images to lower to 90% opacity on hover.

    Hi Jleuze

    Thanks for replying so fast.

It’s actually not about the cursor it self. I want the hand to bee on the picture all the time, to show the visitors that they can click there. This have been shown to greatly improve the click rate.

I could manually put the hand on each picture, but it would be easier (for me) if it was a part of the plugin design.

Ah, I understand Pete. If you want the graphic as a watermark on top of the slide graphics, you’d have to add it to the images before uploading them.

OK, but just out of curriosity, is it possible in a PHP-driven plugin handling graphics, to automatic superimpose a watermark like the little hand or »Click here«?

Thanx for taking the time 😉

Yep, you can add a watermark with a plugin. Some of the gallery plugins support watermarks, and there are even some plugins dedicated to strictly adding watermarks.
