No Toggle buttons between Visual and html\Images show up as code

When I try to insert an image on to a page all I get is code, not the thumbnail image or no image at all. My tool bar has code buttons ex.(b,i,link,code,ol) but no ‘word like’ editing buttons. to include the toggle buttons that suppose to be on the upper right of the tool bar on are gone. Is there any way to change the tool bar? or insert images that appear as thumbnails and not code?
